A Little About Me
My Mother Was A Little Perturbed That I Ordered That Makeup Kit, But My Friendship With Makeup, My Love Of Makeup Was Forever Forged And Thankfully Couldn’t Be Undone.
Since Those Days, I Have In One Way Or Another Been Involved In The Beauty Space, Whether Its Been Professionally Or Personally. Personally, I Have Done And Practiced My Own Hair & Makeup Every Day Since I Was About 15, Constantly Learning About New Products And Studying And Learning New Techniques. Professionally I Have Been A Studio Makeup Artist For A Private Photographer, Owning A Successful Nail Salon Named “Get Nailed” (a little risqué I know), And Of Course Now Owning Several Makeup Stores.
It Took Me A While To Figure Out How I Wanted To Be In The Beauty Space Because For Some Reason When I Was Younger I Thought The Only Way You Could Be In Makeup Was To Be A Working Makeup Artist. Well Fast Forward Several Years, And I Realized I Can Be In Makeup Without Being A Working Makeup Artist. And So This Is Where I’ve Settled, Owning A Makeup Store, And I Love It.
When I Was About 7 Or So Back In The Mid 1970’s, I Ordered A Subscription Makeup Kit From One Of Those Mail In Post Cards That You Would Find In The Back Of Magazines. It Was One Of My Mothers Magazines, So More Than Likely It Was Good Housekeeping Or Ladies Home Journal. It’s Been Many Years Since That Fateful Day, So My Memory Of The Exact Magazine Is A Little Fuzzy. Anyway, I Saw The Advertisement, Found A Dollar (in my mother’s purse lol), And Mailed It In. Being 7 I Thought It Was Going To Arrive The Minute I Put It In The Mail, And Of Course It Didn’t.
So When It Showed Up In The Mail (What I’m Assuming Was 6-8 Weeks Later) I Was Star Stuck!! I Felt Like A Movie Star. Looking At All That Makeup And Wondering And Imagining And Fantasizing About How It Was Going To Instantly Change Me And Make Me Better, Make Everything Better, No Matter What It Was. Makeup Was Going To Conquer All!!
